American Narratives:
A two year project to capture
stories of ordinary Americans
doing extraordinary things

Simply put, we will be taking 17 journeys over the next two years to meet the folks whose stories we will share,
first on social media and in the Fall of 2025, through our publications.

While on those journeys, we hope to be sharing our visits and travels with upper elementary students so they can come along with us, ask questions about those places, and see those sites as best we can portray them. We look forward to sharing their views and queries.

We continue to look for ways to connect our travels to schools back home. If you are an educator that is interested in discussing the possibilities with us, please email us.

Won’t it be nice to read something positive for a change?

OUR UPCOMING JOURNEYS

September 16th to October 19th, 2024

Trip #7 will take us all the way to the Pacific as we take advantage of the fall weather in the northwest to add six more states to our travels.  We will put in two long travel days in the Grey Goose (our truck) to retrieve our camper, Jaybird, in Luverne, MN.  After an extra day to recoup, repair and bike ride, we head back to North Dakota to see the southern part of the state before returning to Montana to visit several state parks and follow Lewis & Clark’s route as best we can.  Our route takes us through the panhandle of Idaho before two stays in Washington, a visit to the Northern Cascades National Park and the Pacific Ocean.  Then down the coast to Portland, Oregon (like Burlington?), Mt. Hood and the Hood River before working our way back into Idaho and a stop in Boise.  We will spend five days in and around Yellowstone National Park, visit Buffalo Bill’s hometown of Cody, Wyoming and then a quick return to Rapid City to hopefully chat with Dale Lamphere, the artist behind Dignity of Earth & Sky.  As the weather gets colder, we head south through Nebraska to Lenexa, Kansas and visit our first narrative subject, Bob Clay before working our way back to Greensburg, KY where we will store Jaybird in preparation for trip #8 to Alabama & Mississippi in November.  On the way home, we will stop in Frankfort, KY for a narrative chat and visit with some folks in Ohio.  Thirty-seven days and 8000 miles - quite an adventure.

If you know of someone doing good things in their community within a day’s drive of our path, let us know and we will connect with them. Use our contact form or send us an email with their name and info so we can plan a visit soon.
